Tony award winning Actor Ron Silver, and outsider within the ranks of actors for being a Republican died today of throat (esophageal) cancer. He was 62. He died peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning.
No one really dies until you forget them. Ron Silver leaves behind a legacy so that he too can be remembered. It's a legacy where his two passions of acting and politics intertwined. With films such as his potrayal of Alan Dershowitz in Reversal of Fortune and TV shows like West Wing to narratives in documentaries like Fahrenhype 9/11.
Ron often mixed acting and politics. He was part of the actors coalition in which he co-founded Creative Coalition (meant to be non-partisan) with fellow actors and actresses such Alec Baldwin, Stephen Collins, Christopher Reeve, Blair Brown and Susan Sarandon. As his political views veered conservative (after 9/11) and he openly began to endorse local politicians such as Rudy Giuliani to Republican Presidential candidates it made for lively discussions with his still close liberal friends. It just goes to show we all can live together despite our differences. But it's sad we have to live without Ron Silver anymore.
Ron leaves behind his ex-wife Lynne Miller and children Adam and Alexandra.
