For 2008, PETA has updated its Worst Dressed List beyond just fur coats. While many celebs have learned that wearing fur is taboo, they have not worked past exotic leathers and skins. Python skinned bags and alligator covered pumps were all the rage this season and celebrities were not shy about stepping out with their favorite crocodile clutch.
This year’s biggest fashion offender went to Aretha Franklin. PETA asked for more R-E-S-P-E-C-T towards animals from the queen soul and criticized her for consistently stepping out in giant fur coats. Also making the list was Marilyn Manson for his many head to toe leather ensembles. PETA also called out Kylie Minogue for her hoards of leather skinned bags. Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss, and Eva Longoria also were featured for filling their wardrobes with fur pieces.
PETA asks that celebrities set the example and help save the animals from not just dying but the excruciating pain that goes along with harvesting their skins. Other celebs, such as Pamela Anderson and Christina Applegate have stepped out in support of PETA’s efforts, posing nude in anti-fur and pro-vegetarian ads.
