Even after Britney Spears’ out-of-it performance at last year’s Video Music Awards, MTV might give the pop star another chance to take the stage.
“Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?” Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, said Friday, adding that he was “sorta” joking.
“Who knows?” he added.
Spears infamously opened the VMA’s in September 2007—a much-hyped “comeback” performance – with a disastrous rendition of “Gimme More.”
Looking pudgy and dazed in a black sequined bra and underwear set, the pop star fudged her way through the dance tune, drawing in 7.1 million viewers in the process.
“I’m not sure how we top Britney opening the show,” said Toffler. “We are working on it every minute of every day.”
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will air live from L.A. on Sept. 7.
