Gas Prices Getting You Down? Have No Fear the Lithium-ion Battery is Here!

Researchers at Stanford University have discovered a new way to improve the rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, using nanowires, so that that charge produces lasts 10x longer then existing batteries. The new Li-ion battery will be able to provide 20 hours of reusable life, which would provide enough juice to watch 6 to 7 movies during plane flights.

For electric-run cars, the new lithium-ion battery will allow vehicles to drive 1,2000 miles instead of just 120 miles on a single charge. With gas prices on the rise across America, the Li-ion battery will certainly pioneer a revolutionary change over to electric cars. The downside to electric vehicles is that their current design closely resembles that of a clown car, and will be quite a difficult downgrade from the spacious, gas-guzzling SUVs we have all come to love.

On a more positive note, the new lithium battery will create a lessened demand for oil, which means that world will have to find another resource to fight over, and I sure am excited to find out what that will be.
