Today, February 3rd, celebrates Normal Rockwell’s birthday. We may not have known Rockwell’s face, but his characters, first publicized in the Saturday Evening Post, are an integral part of pop culture today.
His work has been featured in hundreds of calendars, magazines, and advertisements since his death in 1978. You may have seen his illustrations in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, to a painting on the wall at the Guggenheim museum.
His work has been featured in pop culture’s greatest movies, such as Lilo and Stitch, American Gangster, and The Polar Express. If nothing else, you’ve seen Rockwell’s Thanksgiving Portrait, and his other-best-known work “Puppy Love”, which is featured on Google.Com today.
