Two months after his untimely death, Michael Jackson will be buried today at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. The ceremony will be a private affair for family and friends only. The funeral was supposed to be held on August 29, which would have been the King of Pop's 51st birthday, but was pushed back with no explanation.
There was much debate over where Jackson should be buried - brother Jermaine Jackson had wanted Michael to be buried at the singer's Neverland Valley Ranch estate. It was decided that Jackson will be buried in the Great Mausoleum on the grounds of Forest Lawn (George Burns, Clark Gable, Nat King Cole, John Wayne and Walt Disney are also all buried there). Jackson's mausoleum will have replicas of Michelangelo's "David" and "Moses" sculptures and a stained glass rendition of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper." Gladys Knight will perform an undisclosed song at the funeral, but no media of any kind will be present. Police, however, will be there, including canine units and air support, to keep gawkers away.
