Meg Ryan: I loved being out of the spotlight

Meg Ryan says she’s loved being out of the spotlight for the past few years.

The star shied away from the media after her affair with Russell Crowe in 2000.

She was married to actor Dennis Quaid, 54, at the time.

‘It’s a very big surprise in life when you learn that not everyone is rooting for you,’ she tells S magazine.

‘It’s a very scary thing when you figure that out.’

‘I took some time off. I think it’s great being less famous.'

Meg, 46, appears in The Women alongside Eva Mendes and Debra Messing.

But she says her days in the limelight may be numbered.

‘I think when Hollywood’s done with me, I will probably have been done with it a little sooner.’

Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing at 'The Women Premiere'

Their latest flick is called The Women, so it was fitting that the movie's premiere should be a girly affair. Screen sirens Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett Smith and Debra Messing teamed up with the rest of the all-female cast for a ladies' night to fete the sassy comedy drama on Thursday.

The new movie is a remake of the 1939 film of the same name, and focuses on a wealthy New Yorker - played by Meg - who leaves her unfaithful husband and strikes up friendships with other society women.

American Beauty actress Annette Bening was on hand for the red carpet event too, as were Sex And The City star Candice Bergen, model Eva Mendes and veteran entertainer Bette Midler.

It wasn't an exclusively girls-only do, though. Men In Black actor Will Smith turned out to support wife Jada, while Warren Beatty also played the role of supportive husband to wife of 16 years Annette.

Meg Ryan Was Destined To Adopt Her Daughter

The 45-year-old actress - who adopted a two-year-old girl, Daisy, from China last January - believes it was fate that brought the two together.

She said in an interview with Redbook magazine: "I am convinced, completely and utterly convinced, that there was nothing random about the adoption. She is the daughter I should have.

"I never felt like I was on a rescue mission or anything like that. I just really wanted a baby. I was on a mission to connect with somebody, and Daisy and I got to meet each other in this way at this time. We are so compatible."

Meg originally named her daughter Charlotte, but insists she had to change it because the moniker just didn't suit her.

She explained: "I thought she was Charlotte, and she's just not.

"She's a Daisy. She's got the most open, beautiful, honest face you'll ever see."

Meg also has a teenage son, Jack Henry, from her marriage to actor Dennis Quaid.
