Angelina Jolie may be super hot but we've always known she's a little bit weird. She told W magazine that she recently took her 7-year-old son, Maddox, knife-shopping and discussed with her eldest child the importance of defending others.

While others may find the choice of gift upsetting, Angelina claims that the gesture is traditional, as her late mother Marcheline Bertrand took her knife-shopping when she was 11. Hmm.. interesting. Couldn't she just get him a train set or monster trucks?

“My mom took me to buy my first daggers when I was 11 or 12,” Angelina explained. “And I've already bought Maddox some." There you have it.

Actress wants to make her son socially aware

Angelina Jolie is teaching her 7-year-old son Maddox about knives.

The actress - who adopted the Cambodian-born youngster in 2002 - wants him to understand the consequences of carrying a weapon.

‘We take him to a special shop,’ she tell W magazine.

‘We also talk about samurais and the idea about defending someone as good. We talk about everything.'

Ange, 33, and Brad Pitt, 44, are also parents to 3-month-old twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, daughter Shiloh, 2, and adopted kids Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3.

The family had an SUV waiting for them as they exited the museum. As they were leaving, Brad was carrying Zahara and holding Pax’s hand while Angelina carried Shiloh with Maddox pushing the stroller.

Angelina Jolie and her long-term partner Brad Pitt - whose relationship is rumored to be going through a rocky patch - are reportedly planning to travel to the African country to find a fourth disadvantaged child they can give a home to.

The couple - who are already adoptive parents to six-year-old Cambodian boy Maddox, Vietnamese son Pax Thien, three, and two-year-old Zahara, who was born in Ethiopia - believe another baby will strengthen their relationship and help Zahara feel more secure within the family.

A source close to the couple - who also have a 14-month-old biological daughter, Shiloh - told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "Brad and Angelina have made no secret of the fact they are keen to extend their rainbow family.

"Angelina, in particular, feels very strongly that while Shiloh will grow up seeing the family resemblances between herself and her natural parents, and Maddox and Pax will have a connection through their birthplaces, Zahara has no such close-knit bond. Brad and Angelina hope that by finding a brother or sister for her, it will help Zahara feel more comfortable and happy in her own skin, and also bring them closer together."

The couple are said to be planning to visit Ethiopia's Wide Horizons agency, the same place that introduced them to Zahara, in November.

Angelina Jolie feels a connection to people "around the world" and this sparked her decision to adopt three children.

When Angelina was asked if seeing displaced families in refugee camps inspired her to adopt, she said: "It might be part of the reason my kids are from some of those countries, and were on their own. I feel very close to children or people around the world and when I met my kids, they were, to me, extraordinary - and felt just like family. And that's how I feel about the world and other people's kids."

Angelina, who adopted her first child, five-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia, says she was destined to raise him.

She told CNN's Anderson Cooper: "I fell in love with the people of Cambodia and I was sitting with a little kid playing blocks and feeling like my son was somewhere there. And he was."

Angelina Jolie attempts to harden her son Maddox's feet whenever they return to his native Cambodia - by making him walk around without shoes on.

The actress admits her eldest son isn't always happy to go native when he goes 'home', but Jolie thinks it's important young Maddox lives the Cambodian experience.

She explains, "When we go to Cambodia I always say, 'Take our shoes off,' and we walk across the rocks."

"There was a time he would whine about little things like that and I'll say, 'Everybody in Cambodia can walk with bare feet. They get tough Cambodian feet.'

"So the two of us will take our shoes off and walk across the rocks and go eat a cricket."

Brad Pitt Designed Energy-Efficient Home

Work began on the first of five energy-efficient homes designed by actor Brad Pitt in New Orleans, Louisiana earlier today.

The Troy star, who has a home in the city with girlfriend Angelina Jolie, chaired the design jury on the properties for the Global Green USA project.

The homes will be 100 per cent efficient, producing their own electricity, and form part of a development of 18 apartments and a community centre in the Ninth Ward district of New Orleans. The area was left devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Pitt says, "It doesn't have to cost more. It doesn't have to look like a spaceship in the desert."

"What if a home actually created energy instead of consuming it? What if your utility bill could be nothing?"

And Brad hopes energy-efficient homes will soon be pushed by a US president in the near future.

He adds, "It's going to take a straightforward leader to say... 'We're going to do this in 10 years."

"I'm hoping, I'm crying, for this man or this woman to show up."

Angelina Jolie lost her virginity at aged 14 to her first boyfriend, and has revealed she began cutting him with a knife after the sex "wasn't enough".

Angelina explained: "I had started having sex with my boyfriend and the sex and the emotions didn't feel enough. I was no longer a little girl. In a moment of wanting to feel closer to my boyfriend I grabbed a knife and cut him. He cut me back.

"We had an exchange of something and we were covered in blood, my heart was racing. Then whenever I felt trapped, I'd cut myself. I have a lot of scars.

"It was an age when I felt adventurous and after a few beers things happened."

The 31-year-old stopped self-harming when she adopted five-year-old Cambodian boy Maddox.

Angelina said: "It had something to do with becoming a mother. That was the biggest change in my life and made me feel complete. I learned to accept responsibility for myself, my children and my partner."

Angelina Jolie and her five-year-old son Maddox spent more than $700 on Friday just to take a shower at a posh hotel.

Jolie and her son made a stop at Shutters On The Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, California so they could shower and freshen up.

A source tells American publication Star, "Angelina said they only wanted the room for two hours - time enough for them both to take a shower. She was very sweet and seemed like a concerned mom."

"It was just very bizarre, when she and Brad (Pitt) own two house here in Los Angeles, that she would need to spend that kind of money on a hotel room just so she and Maddox could shower."

Jolie and Pitt recently moved their family to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he is currently filming The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.
