Self Image Issues Effect Everyone, Even Kathy Griffin

In People magazine, actress and comedian Kathy Griffin opens up about a career long struggle with her self image and weight issues. According to Griffin, she has been advised throughout her entire career to get her nose fixed and maintain a sleek, slender figure.

"I was told repeatedly, 'You would be pretty if it weren't for that nose. You'd work more if it weren't for that nose.' You would think I had a nose the size of Texas. I was young and impressionable and started to believe it, so I got a nose job," Griffin tells People.
In recent months, Kathy Griffin's freshly toned body has been plastered on magazine covers. She even began making television appearances touring her house in a bikini to show off all the work she has done (or that she's had done, either way.)

What mixed message is Kathy Griffin sending to women today? Griffin admits, even brags, about the Joan Rivers-esque amount of plastic surgery she has endured. Even with several procedures under her belt (no pun intended) she says that it's a daily struggle to maintain her workout regime and strict diet.

If more celebrities would work to stop the misconception that being malnourished, underweight, and overexercised is acceptable in society, poor self esteem issues wouldn't affect women to the extreme that it does today. Kathy Griffin takes an honest standpoint about her past experiences with beauty issues and discusses them candidly with People magazine.

Kathy Griffin's Hot Mike Should Get Her Fired

TV is great when things happen without warning. From Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction to Presidents and journalist making off colour comments when they don't realize their mic's are still on. But sometimes D-list celebs intend to say things for publicity. Consider Kathy Griffin's set-up of an off screen heckler in Time's Square on New Year's Eve 2009.

NOTE: This video is PG13+ Not suitable for kids or at work. Read on if you want the details and can't watch the video.

On New Year's eve, Kathy Griffin may have been working on getting Anderson Cooper fired as in previous attempts, but hopefully CNN has had it with her polarizing behavior. Of course her left-wing agenda fits right in so things balance out. But what about us real people?

Clearly Kathy planned her vulgar comments. How? First she set the guy up by saying, "Why don't you get a job, buddy?.." Playing on his would be interjection, "I have a job." Which apparently he had no time for but meant to allow her to follow up with her insipid dig, "You know what I don't go to your job and knock the d--- out of your mouth."

Griffin didn't stop there. She insulted CNN staffers next as Anderson Cooper became increasingly uncomfortable. Maybe in New York this type of talk is acceptable, I hope not.

Readers--who do you think are the type to watch the ball drop on TV? It's not a bunch of drunk party-goers; it's families. Families watch the ball drop. We don't need a self proclaimed D list entertainer spewing man hating invective across the airwaves. Hopefully CNN will have enough sense to ban this woman from their network.

Oh did the ratings go up? Well forget everything I just said then. She'll be back next year and Cooper will then be second billing.

Happy New Year...FIRST POST OF THE YEAR!!

I did it! Ha ha! I did it! The first post of the new year! Mine. Mine. MIIIIIIINE!!!!

*evil laugh*

This year had to have been THE craziest New Year's on record...and I live in NYC, so this is no small feat.

First off, there was My Morning Jacket's show at the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden (pics to be posted on the main site whenever we can find the editor amongst the survivors...). Let's just say...I've seen some things, man. I've seen some things.

Then, at the eleventh hour, Time Warner Cable announced its truce with Viacom. (What, you say?)

Let us pause and worship at the altar of the trash TV gods for a minute:

I love Sharon Osbourne.

Back to this resolved issue: Time Warner said Viacom wants to charge more for use of their networks, including: MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV James, MTV Tr3s, Comedy Central, CMT, Pure Country, Logo, Palladia, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic and VH1 Soul.

Time Warner Cable doesn't want to pay, because they will have to charge their subscribers more if they agree to it (and, really, considering our cable bills every month -- FOR BASIC CABLE BESIDES! -- there's really only so much one is willing to pay for their All in the Family reruns. On the other hand, fleecing customers is a fine art that Time Warner has perfected...).

Well, this morning, Time Warner and Viacom resolved their differences. The CEO of Time Warner released the following statement: "We are pleased that our customers will continue to be able to watch the customers will continue to be able to watch the programming they enjoy on MTV Networks. We are sorry they had to endure a day of public disagreement as we worked through this negotiation."

They wouldn't say what the new terms of the deal are, but you better believe they are going to be charging us more. Even if they don't need to, they will, because now they have an excuse. Those greedy SOB's love to roll around in as much money as possible (remember Scrooge McDuck on Duck Tales? He was a Franciscan monk compared to these guys...).

For those of you who stayed home and watched CNN, never fear...Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper (who, interestingly enough, is the son of famed clothing designer/socialite Gloria Vanderbilt) made it worth your while.

(WARNING: NSFW!)

Now, we New Yorkers would call this a typical Tuesday, but for those of you outside the area, the following might be a little...interesting...

(Mind you, this isn't an entirely impromptu line. Kathy Griffin has clearly been watching Mr. Show. Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

And how was YOUR New Year's?!

Rosie O Delivers a Real Turkey

NBC's attempt to revive the prime time variety show failed to draw an audience Wednesday night, tying for the evening's lowest-rated program.

A mere 5 million viewers tuned in for the 8 p.m. premiere of "Rosie Live," with the program earning a 1.2 preliminary adults 18-49 rating. The telecast matched ABC's recently canceled "Pushing Daisies" as the night's lowest-rated program on a major broadcast network.

NBC had high hopes for the special and planned to expand the program into a series should viewers re-embrace the decades-old variety format. Other networks, too, were watching closely since several are developing variety shows of their own.

"There's a notion that the climate is right for the genre to make a comeback," emailed one executive at a rival network. "I guess we now know what not to do, thanks to Rosie."

Segments included Kathy Griffin impersonating Nancy Grace, Alec Baldwin hitting Conan O'Brian with a pie, O'Donnell singing "City Lights" with Liza Minnelli and Jane Krakowski doing a product-placement-themed striptease for White Castle burgers and Crest Whitestrips.

Critics were not kind. The NY Times described it as "hokey comedy with an enemies list." TV Guide called it a "ghastly ego trip." And the LA Times asked, "Rosie, what on earth were you thinking?"

Networks have been looking for variety show programming as a cheap option to fill their schedules. But the idea has been sought by executives due the format's rock-bottom cost, cross-promotion possibilities and advertiser-friendly format. In other words, the neo-variety show is a retread designed to solve financial woes rather than an act of programming inspiration -- a bean-counting origin story that makes it tough to imagine an exciting final product.

NBC's variation, in particular, seemed unlikely to attract a broad audience given O'Donnell's divisive personality. Stocked with appearances by Alanis Morrisette, Ne Yo, Rachael Ray, Harry Connick Jr., Clay Aiken and Gloria Estefan, along with Minnelli, Baldwin, Griffin and Krakowski, the lineup's appeal also skewed heavily female for a prime time show airing on the eve of a family holiday.

One special that did perform well last night was Barbara Walters' interview with Barack and Michelle Obama (11.6 million, 3.0 rating). The interview nearly matched "CSI: NY" in the 10 p.m. hour and gave ABC its highest non-awards show rating in the time period in more than a year.

No! Our Favorite Assistant Quits!

A member of 'Team Griffin' is gone! PerezHilton.com is revealing that Kathy Griffin's long-time assistant and My Life on the D-List co-star, Jessica Zajicek, has quit. No! We loved her, she was so cute! She was a pretty big part of the show and seemed to get along with Kathy very well. This is all very interesting to us! Peculiar - could it be just a rumor?

The split happened earlier this month. Unfortunately, her Bravo show is not currently under production, so we'll miss out on the drama on TV!

"Jessica had just had enough of Kathy," says an insider to PerezHilton. "She put up with her for several years. She couldn't take it anymore."
